HARRISBURG – Dan Eichenlaub, past chairman of the PLNA board and owner of Eichenlaub, Inc., participated in the development of an economic impact study and strategic plan for Pennsylvania agriculture. The plan, developed by consultants for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, was released at a special presentation at the Pennsylvania Farm Show January 10. Eichenlaub was part of a special task force that provided input to the consultants and department in the plan’s development.

The study had some good news and not so good news for Pennsylvania’s green industry. The study found that the nursery and floriculture production sector of the agricultural economy in Pennsylvania was one of the largest in employment in 2007, second only to food crops grown under cover. But by 2016, employment had shrunken by 14%, and the nursery and floriculture production sector had fallen to third place.

The study contains a variety of policy recommendations to improve the competitive position of Pennsylvania’s agriculture sector. It’s the first such study and strategic plan for the Pennsylvania agriculture sector ever done. Click here to download a copy of the study and plan.
